What Happened
An 86-year-old Dix Hills man died Saturday afternoon after the 2026 Subaru he was driving veered off northbound Burrs Lane and struck a tree, Suffolk County Police said. The crash was reported at approximately 1:50 p.m.
The man was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead, according to Greater Long Island. His identity has not been released; police are withholding his name pending notification of next of kin.
An 84-year-old woman riding as a passenger in the vehicle was also taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip. She was treated for minor injuries, per the same report.
Police gave no immediate cause for why the Subaru left the roadway. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check as part of the investigation.

Burrs Lane runs north-south through Dix Hills, a hamlet in the Town of Huntington in western Suffolk County. The road carries residential and commuter traffic through the area. Investigation & Legal Proceedings
Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating the crash. The 2026 Subaru was impounded for a safety inspection to help determine the sequence of events, Greater Long Island reported. No charges have been filed.
