What Happened
One person died and a second was seriously injured in a head-on collision on the westbound Northern State Parkway near Exit 25 in the Village of Lake Success around 5 a.m. Sunday, September 6, 2026, according to New York State Police.
Troopers responded to the scene after a Ford Escape and a Ford Maverick collided head-on, according to News 12 Long Island. The preliminary investigation confirmed both vehicles were involved in the direct frontal impact. State police did not release further details on what caused either vehicle to be in the path of oncoming traffic.
The driver of the Ford Maverick suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the Ford Escape was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Neither driver had been publicly identified as of the News 12 report published at 10:40 a.m.
State police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information to contact investigators at 631-756-3300.

New York State Police characterized the investigation as preliminary as of Sunday morning. No charges had been announced and no cause of the head-on collision had been confirmed. Investigators are seeking witnesses and are directing any tips to the troop at 631-756-3300.
