What Happened
A Selden man was killed in his own driveway Wednesday morning, Aug. 26, 2026, when a vehicle he was working on slipped off a jack and rolled over him, police said. The incident was reported at around 8:15 a.m.
According to Daily Voice, the victim was underneath the vehicle performing maintenance when it became dislodged from the jack. The car then rolled down the driveway. The sudden movement trapped him beneath the vehicle, per the Daily Voice report citing investigators.
The victim was pulled from underneath and rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital. He was pronounced dead there, authorities confirmed to Daily Voice.
No other individuals were involved. Police described the incident as an accident stemming from DIY car maintenance.

The incident occurred at a private residential driveway in Selden, a hamlet in the Town of Brookhaven in central Suffolk County. Selden sits along the Middle Country Road corridor, one of Suffolk’s busiest surface routes, though this incident took place off any public roadway entirely.
Stony Brook University Hospital, the Level 1 trauma center that received the victim, is approximately four miles northwest of the Selden hamlet center on Route 25A in Stony Brook.
