What Happened
A 66-year-old Stamford woman was fatally struck by a pickup truck while crossing in a marked crosswalk Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Strawberry Hill Avenue and Colonial Road, according to Stamford police. The victim was a longtime Stamford resident who worked at a local CVS pharmacy in the city, police confirmed.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 2:04 p.m. when a 50-year-old Stamford resident driving a 2014 Toyota pickup truck was traveling southbound on Strawberry Hill Avenue and making a left turn onto Colonial Road, according to police reports. The victim was in the crosswalk on Colonial Road when she was struck by the turning vehicle, Stamford police said.
The pickup truck driver remained at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with the ongoing police investigation, according to SGT Jeffrey Booth with Stamford Police. No arrests have been made in connection with the fatal pedestrian collision, police said. The driver’s identity has not been released by authorities.
Community members who knew the victim expressed shock and grief over her sudden death. “She was a very sweet lady,” said Jenny Castellano, a Stamford resident who knew the victim. “I was heartbroken. I had chills all over my body you know I was like how? I just literally gave her a ride home three weeks ago,” Castellano told News 12.
The victim had been a familiar face in the Stamford community for many years, working at the local CVS pharmacy where she interacted with numerous residents. “She’s been in the community for years,” SGT Booth confirmed. Her death has deeply affected those who knew her both personally and through her work in the community.
