          "Selden has no government of its own; it is an unincorporated hamlet of the Town of Brookhaven.[1] The hamlet is also the headquarters hamlet for policing across a wide swath of the town: the Suffolk County Police Department's 6th Precinct, at 400 Middle Country Road, \"protects and serves several hamlets and incorporated villages within the Town of Brookhaven (North).\"[1][2] As in the rest of the Town, Brookhaven cannot be sued over a road or sidewalk defect without prior written notice under Town of Brookhaven Code Chapter 84.[9] More serious criminal and civil matters go to the Suffolk County court complex at 400 Carleton Avenue in Central Islip.[8]"
