"In the twentieth century Bayport became home to a grass airfield, later listed on the National Register of Historic Places as \"Davis Field\" (also known as Bayport Aerodrome), designated January 22, 2008 under reference number 07001456.[15] The National Park Service's own asset record for the listing gives its resource type as a historic \"District,\" names Curtis Davis, Sr. as its architect, lists \"TRANSPORTATION,\" \"COMMUNITY PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT\" and \"ARCHITECTURE\" as its areas of significance, and gives periods of significance of 1925-1949 and 1950-1974 with 1945 as its single most significant year.[15]"

Section 47A-3 of the Code of the Town of Islip, \"Liability of Town,\" added October 3, 1978 and amended August 21, 1984 and December 17, 1985, provides that \"No civil action shall be maintained against the Town of Islip or any of its employees for damages or injuries to persons or property\" arising from a defective highway, street, bridge, culvert, sidewalk or similar Town-owned property, or from snow or ice on one, unless written notice was actually given to the Town Clerk or the Commissioner of Public Works and the Town failed to repair the condition within a reasonable time.[9]",
"The Appellate Division, Second Department, has enforced this law against Town of Islip plaintiffs. In Cruzate v. Town of Islip, 162 A.D.3d 853 (2d Dept. 2018), the court affirmed summary judgment for the Town after a driver was injured when his car struck a raised drainage cover; the court held that \"a municipality that has adopted a prior written notice law cannot be held liable for a defect within the scope of the law absent the requisite written notice,\" and found that the Town had shown, through Town Clerk and Department of Public Works records, that it had received no such notice of the defect.[10] The Cruzate decision cites an earlier case for the same burden-shifting rule, Factor v. Town of Islip, 134 A.D.3d 984 (2d Dept. 2015): once the Town shows a lack of prior written notice, the burden shifts to the plaintiff to show that the Town either created the hazard or received a special benefit from it.[10]"
